First Evangelical Church Children's Ministry

Hello friends!

We are missing your family's smiling faces, high-fives, fist bumps and hugs and look forward to when we will be able to gather with you and your children to study God's word together again. In the mean-time, we hope that these weekly guides will give you a starting point for how to continue your child's chronological study of the Bible with The Gospel Project.

Please know this email is meant to be received as encouragement, and is not mandatory. But, it is our prayer that during this time there will be more opportunities to gather as a family to read your Bible's aloud and pray together.

If you don't already, please follow us @feckids on Instagram. We have created a content schedule that we hope will be helpful and encouraging to you and your family during this time. We encourage you to share the posts with your kids when appropriate, and hopefully there will be some smiles. Here's what to expect on our Instagram account:

  • Sundays - Sunday School teacher videos (they miss you, too!), worship videos (lead by kids), and The Gospel Project study prompts
  • Mondays - Weekly devotion idea, and resource or activity ideas (please feel free to share your favorites with us!)
  • Tuesdays - Videos of FEC Kids sharing jokes (because "a joyful heart is good medicine!" Proverbs 17:22)
  • Wednesdays - Virtual Awana and Children's Choir
  • Thursdays - Thankful Thursday
  • Fridays - Family Fun Challenge (this will be a contest - winners will receive a gift card to support a local small business)
  • Saturdays - Scripture and prayer

This week's study from The Gospel Project: There's a lot to cover this week, so please feel free to divide it up throughout the week. If your littles get restless, take a break and try again later. Give your kids and yourself lots of grace!

From Adam to Jesus (OT review); John Was Born (Luke 1)

Story Point - God promised to send a savior; John was born to prepare the way for Jesus

Home Discussion Starters for OT Review:

Who is God's Son? (Jesus)

Who made Jesus? (no one; He has always existed)

Talk about people you remember from Jesus' family line. (Adam, Eve, Abraham, King David, Mary, Joseph)

Who did God promise to send to save people from their sin? (Jesus)

Who were the prophets talking about when they said someone would come and rescue God's people? (Jesus)

Who are "God's people"/His family? (the Israelites)

Home Discussion Starters for John Was Born:

Who appeared to Zechariah at the temple? (an angel)

What did the angel tell Zechariah? (Elizabeth, Zechariah's wife, would have a son named John)

Why didn't Zechariah believe the angel at first? (Zechariah and Elizabeth were both very old)

What happened to Zechariah because he didn't believe the angel? (God made him unable to talk until John was born)

Why was John born? (John was born to get people ready for Jesus)

Big Picture Question and Answer

Is Jesus God or human? Jesus is both fully God and fully human!

Christ Connection

OT Review - God sent Jesus to earth to keep His promises to Abraham and David. Jesus rescues people from sin and makes them part of God's family.

John Was Born - Zechariah's son, John, was born to get people ready for Jesus. People all over the world would praise God for keeping His promise to send the Savior, repent of their sins, and become part of God's family.

Family Activity

OT Review - Talk about your family line and talk about Jesus' family line. Remind kids that Jesus had an earthly mother and father, but his true Father is God.

John Was Born - Play a game of Pictionary as a family. Practice communicating without speech. Talk about what happened to Zechariah when he didn't believe the angel. After John was born, Zechariah spoke and praised God because he knew Jesus would be born soon. Zechariah understood that God would keep His promise to send a Savior. God always keeps His promises.

Memory Verse

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1
